THE MARCH

The March (working title) is a collaborative documentary that follows the two month march starting from Bellinzona, Ticino, and crossing through Switzerland, with the aim to generate awareness on the policies of refugee migration in our country. The Bainvegni Fugitivs March (dossier available) begins October 14th and ends the December 10th. It is leaded by Lisa Bosia Mirra and has the following declaration:

“We are a group of citizens concerned about migration policies growing increasingly restrictive and inhumane.

We have therefore decided to react with a march across Switzerland. Our march will involve asylum seekers, volunteers from associations engaged in the reception and in the defence of the right to seek asylum.

We demand the end of Dublin and border rejections, administrative detention, control and persecution of asylum seekers.

We urge the opening of humanitarion corridors, encouragement of familie’s rejoinments and we plead for the international conventions protecting unaccompained minors to be respected.

Unaccompained minors have the right to be assisted and protected and their expulsion is forbidden.“

The March Documentary aims to be an objective radiographic analysis of Swiss cultural identity and the present understanding in respects to the situation of refugees.

One of the main themes deals with the current criminalization legal status on solidarity.

Relay production

During the two months of filming, a number of filmmakers around Switzerland will cover the event. The outcome of such collaboration is a film that contains the subjective experience of each filmmaker, relating to different aspects of the march and stories born therein. The characters filmed, the questions asked, the details captured, will all generate a mosaic of information that will find a common core.

Although work will be addressed and structured in order to generate a continuance of material during production, it is provided that each filmmaker will have the freedom to follow her / his own instinct. Post - production work will provide a dialogue through the various visions.

During the march, each filmmaker will have the chance to upload his filmed material (pre-selected) and view the material already shared by other filmmakers. There will also be short written accounts on the experience with suggestions on situations, characters, and dynamics to be picked up upon by the rest of the crew.

The March is a relay production, the baton of information is passed along for each leg of production to pick up where the former has left.

The two month journey through Switzlerand is in itself structured. Yet the outcome of its success, the number of people involved in the march, and the situations encountered throughout are all tied to chance and the unfolding of the march itself.

This is a non lucrative production.
